Engine temp story

The post below about cooling system cleaning made me think about this. Not sure if it was on the 3010-4010 or
early 3020-4020's when new. Dealers were getting complaints about tractors running almost hot. The temp gauge
was right on the red line when working hard on hot days. Deere's answer was new temp gauges with a smaller
red area. After reading that I began looking at different tractors I came across and sure enough some had
temp guages with different red zones. Tom

My 4010 has always run on the N unless a very hot day and under very heavy load. Then slightly above N.

If'n only gauges always were (legibly) marked with actual temperature rather than green/red or low/high. That'd have allowed us to describe actual temperature rather than "it runs hot". If I recall correctly, Kawasaki back in the early 1980s dealt with customer concern about motorcycles (the 900 ninja?) running "too hot" by adding a resistor inline withe the gauge to move the needle down the scale. c'est la vie.

My 4020's on hot days chopping corn silage will run right to the edge of the red. We have the fuel turned up and with a 2 row they worked hard. Tom
