John Deere 420 U Hydraulics

Can I get some clarification on the hydraulic lever controls on the tractor. I read through the operators manual and can't seem to find out what the lever that is on the right side of the seat is for. It is between the seat and the lever that raises and lowers the 3 pt.

Any chance for a picture ?
The experts might help me out here but a U tractor only had the single three point lever, any chance that you have a remote hydraulic cylinder valve (option) on that tractor ? If so you would
have the plug in for hydraulic cylinder on the rear...

My guess is that you have a dual rockshaft.
On the left side of the rockshaft, there are 2 arms.
The inside lever is for the dual rockshaft.

If this tractor does not have dual rockshaft, then it's for the Selective Control Valve.

(quoted from post at 11:07:13 05/15/23) Pictures sure do speed up answers!

Thank You All for the prompt replies. Yes, I do have a single lever for the 3 pt. This is the only picture I have available right now but you can see part of the lever I am referring to it is below the 3 pt lever near the bottom of the steering wheel. This is all new to me so I am trying to learn as I restore it.

What does the dual rockshaft do?

Yes, I only have the single lever. I wonder why the manual lever shows two of them. I did originally come with the orchard exhaust manifold.

Here is a picture of the lever.

Pic didn't work. Try again.
You're not talking about the lever next to the gear shift lever are you? That's the PTO. Just checking.

Sorry for the delay in a reply. Here are some pictures of the lever and what it is connected to.

Thank You All for the help.

Control lever for the remote couplers, which are shown right below the light in your picture of the rear of the tractor.

And it looks like your left draft link pin is loose.

Thank You, Newbie question . What is the remote coupler used for?

It took me a few seconds to see what you were referring to about the draft link pin . Thanks for pointing it out. Will get the wrenches out.

The remote couplers are where the hoses for a remote (implement) mounted hydraulic cylinder connect.
