What are the approximate hours one can expect one to get before needing an overhaul? With proper and
timely servicing history. This on a 40kw genset.

It all depends on use and maintenance. I have one with over 18k on it that has only had the head off (leaking gasket) last year. It's in a small payloader. If you don't change the coolant, it can be a lot less hours before you see issues.

As said, it depends on how it is used and maintained. I overhauled a 6400 with that engine a few years ago that had around 24,000 hours on a Deere reman engine. Head gasket had failed otherwise would have kept going. Crankshaft polished at standard bearings. Original engine went to 17,000 hours but I don't know what failed on that. Tractor has been on a TMR most of it's life. Poorly maintained and abused they can fail at any time.
