New air stack for a late A

OK, what's the trick for getting it on the casting? The old stack had been broken off and repaired, held on with three 5/16 bolts, but sitting high
and the steering shaft wore a hole in it. I got a new NOS stack but it seems too tight, like it need to be expanded a bit. I'm thinking I should
grind off the old weld bead and have it welded but I don't want to ruin it.

I would grind off the old weld. It should be a snug fit. You should position the stack and tack weld it in place on the tractor to align it properly with the exaust. If it tips slightly forward or rearward or side to side the hood won't slide down over it.
