Timing closed center hyd pump shaft to engine TDC?

Has anyone read or heard of JD tech manual or service bulletin stating that closed-center hyd pump shaft needed to be timed to engine crankshaft on #1 TDC? I've never heard of this procedure until today on another discussion forum. I checked tech manual #1458 for 4255 & service manual #2038 for 3000 series tractor & didn't locate any reference to timing engine crankshaft to hyd pump shaft.
Thank you, Jim

No ... trying to figure out the logic behind that idea given the design of the pump ... even if you started out lined up at TDC wouldnt it become off based on the particular cylinder count and pump piston count ... they dont sync up mechanically do they?

Was this discussion specific to an engine and pump combination?

I can't see how it would matter.

I was told this too by a very reputable JD tech just last week. I believe it only applies to a few late large frame 60 series tractors?
Perhaps 55 series, too. It is real, but not for what you are doing.

About 25 years ago I attended a series of classes that were put on by Deere to establish a base line for service training. The
hydraulics course was administered by a contracted instructor who made mention of this timing for radial piston pumps. This is the
only other time I have heard of this. A John Deere unicorn? Who knows? Also at this course I had to demonstrate adjusting SCV's as the
instructor could not get his head around it....

Got to tell this story. We had so called new service manager that took a call on a hay baler that lost drive chain and need help timing baler. He asked a seasoned tech if he knew how and if he would go out on service call to time baler. I knew tech very well and knew he forgot more about balers than the manager would ever know. He said he would load his tool box while he told manager to go get the baler timing light! He went after it and well you know how the rest of the story goes. Some people are pretty gullible to say the least!
