Hello, I am wondering if anyone can give me an idea of why this 430 does not run properly? It seems to be firing all over the place. I have put points, rotor, cap, and carb kit but still seems a bit off when its running?

Was it running like this before you changed all those things or did it start after the changes?

Sounds like the carb is lean on idle circuit and possibly backing out the idle mixture screw will correct the problem, maybe the idle circuit is plugged.

Quite a few years ago my 430 would only run on one cylinder, plug would foul quickly. I rebuilt carb and solved problem. I was told the way the manifold is on them one cylinder tends to get more fuel and therefore fouled that plug.

I think you are right because i just tried turning the idle screw out and and nothing happens so its probably plugged in the carb.

I believe you are working with a MS TSX carb, if that is true be aware that the idle mixture screw controls AIR, so backing out LEANS the idle mixture.

You need to remove the main jet and clean those tiny holes. The idle jet too. There's 3 tiny holes in the throat that you have to clean out too. TIG tip cleaners work good.

Probably need new plugs too.
