Looking at buying an older 4wd tractor.

What are opinions on the quality of the 2940 4wd?

Is the 4wd mechanical MFWD or not??

Many thanks !!

2940 has MFWD, dry traction clutch & slight history of leaks in low pressure hyd tubes. Is this tractor open station or cab model?

It is 40+ years old so don t have high hopes .
As with any engine with wet sleeves . If the corrosion inhibitor expires in the coolant . The sleeves can cavitate .
If the incorrect oil or water contaminated oil is in the transmission/hydraulic system . The wet clutch and wet brake friction material fibres could be damaged .
Pull the transmission filter and examine . If loaded with fine grey metal and/or friction material fibres . Best to avoid the machine .

They were much better than the 2840 which had all kinds of problems. Some records 0f head gasket issues with low sleeve height but not many. At this point I would think if it had that issue it would have been corrected long ago. The other problem was some cracking of low pressure hydraulic tubes in the the transmission case. Nothing like the 2840 but a few were recorded. Other wise a pretty good tractor. good Luck!

I have one I bought as a used tractor with a loader years ago. Its a 4WD mechanical engaged with a flip of a dashboard switch. Nicely balanced tractor for
a loader. Have chains for the front wheels in winter. No stopping this thing in the snow. Summer have a spear on front and rear to gather large round
bales. Likes preheat in cold weather
