John deere 50 brake seized

Hey the brakes on my 50 are seized from sitting. If i take the drum off, that will allow me to loosen the pads so i can roll it or should i just pop the brake assembly out of the transmission housing completely since ill probably need to rebuild them?

The pads are stuck to the drum. If you are able to remove the drum the pads will (obviously) no longer be stuck to it.

Have you tried backing off the brake adjustment, applying lots of ''loosen juice'', and tapping around the drum with a ''deadblow'' or brass hammer?

I loosened the big nut and sprayed some
penetrating fluid in there as best as i
could but havent hit it wirh a hammer yet

Spray ''loosen juice'' into the gap between the backing plate and the drum, so it MAY help brake the shoes loose.

Pull the whole assembly. Take the nut off. Lay a piece of hard wood on a concrete floor . Drop the assembly on the stud till it breaks loose. Pull everything apart and clean and lubricate. Replace if needed. You will then have working and adjustable brakes for a long time
