Does anybody know, Will a hood from a JD model R fit on a JD 80 or 820? What about the model R front nose cone assembly. Will it fit the 80 or 820?

Ahhh....................nope, but try telling a Rooster that.

Just kidding.

The R is a different animal than the number series tractors. The 80 and the 820 are very similar and the 830 shares some similarities also to the point that all three tractors are covered in the same tech manual.

A good guide is to check part numbers, if they are the same they will work (fit), if not they will look like the Rooster.

the hood is the same except the hole for power steering fill. I have an R hood on one of my 820's

pretty certain most of the nose pieces interchange as well . but I don't know for certain.

Thank you for your response. I was thinking they were the same but didn't know for sure. You confirmed it for me. Thank you again Jason

Dan, I saw an R and a 820 at the Mecum auction a week ago in East Moline, Ill, but no 80 that I remember but I was certain the R sheet metal was different. The hours I spent listening to Dad's R that he thought I REALLY needed at 10 years old to help him farm wouldn't have helped, nobody around had an 80 or 820 to compare it to. Dad did put Char-Lynn power assist steering on the R, that helped me some running that thing. But the year before I'd done some disking and plowing with the Super M-TA and I was much more comfortable on that. And it covered more ground.
The following year the R was sold and the SM-TA was traded for a 450 Farmall, a REAL 4-bottom tractor. The last 3-4 years we pulled 4-14's with our 4010 Diesel, because we had a Midwest Plow harrow on the plow. We first tried it with 5-14's and the harrow but plowing in 1st or 2nd gear or 3rd in old corn ground if no hills wasn't getting things done fast enough.

I have no experience with an R but I do have an 80. Just sits in the barn with my others most of the time.

I have enough trouble getting sheet metal back in place after I take it off with out taking something from another model and then trying to make it fit. Seems like the sheet metal on my numbered series tractors shrinks when I take it off, not really but sometimes it is a struggle to make it look right.
