Lead washers

Just noticed the dust shield that goes behind the belt pulley on my A is calling for lead washers on the bolts? Is this for oil sealing purposes? I'm having a hard time finding new washers so was just thinking about sealing the bolts with some rtv or somthing?

Not sure why they call for a lead washer there. The G's just use lock washers.

On the John Deere A, there are seven cap screws holding the dust shield, with the four front screws threaded into and on through the first reduction-gear cover.. They need lead washers or a sealant to seal out the oil from coming up the threads .. The back three cap screws holding the pulley shield, do not thread clear through into the first reduction-gear cover. On the G tractor, it has seven studs sealed into the first reduction-gear cover holding on the dust shield, only needing a lock washer and nut.. If no lead washers, use some sealer on the front four cap screws...

Buy lead roof boot at home depot or loews
and make your own. All u need is hole
punch set.that what I use to make my lead
washer for john deere 60 cylinder head.

I think its a little bit of a lock and a little bit of a sealant. A lock
washer and a bit of loctite or better yet a tiny bit of aviation
gasket maker on the threads should do unless the correct
police drive by. Manufacturers didnt have threadlocker back
then
