John Deere model R rear wheel needed

Hi everyone,
Im looking for a rear wheel for a 1954 model R. Dont need the cast inner piece just the outer rim. Original size is either 14-34 or 15-34. I would even be happy with a portion of a wheel that I could cut up and weld in to fix my original. Any help tracking down a replacement would be greatly appreciated.

Dunno where you're at, you could try Pete's, they'll likely ship to you if you are OK with the $$.

Thanks, is that Machinery Pete s or Pete s Tractor Salvage? I ve pretty much scoured the internet with no luck but willing to try anything at this point. Was hoping to get lucky and find a collector or parts guy that had one laying around.

You can buy brand new rims from Ag Wheel Express in Fort Madison Iowa. Quick Google search will give you their phone number and price for a 14x34 or 15x34 rim. Will be brand new rims, not rusty used rims,

Thanks I just checked Ag Wheel Express and they don t have it. The R used a peculiar rear wheel not used on many models but I appreciate your help.

Please explain what the peculiar is. Whatever it is, I wasn't aware of it, and I was around Rs for many years.

The peculiar is the large single bevel running the center of the wheel. I just can t find it anywhere.

Ask them for a deep well rim. I bought a pair of 26" rims for my 820 years ago.

There's this: https://www.agwheelexpress.com/stor...6-x-34-deep-well-rim-wdrive-lug--silver-mist/

It's a little wide at 16"

And there's this: https://www.woldinc.com/product/det...-wheel-casting/i5480/16x34-dw-rim-w-drive-lug

But still 16"

So, I guess you could upgrade your R to 18.4-34's or even 20.8-34's
I'm not a tire guy, so I don't know if 16.9-34 tires would fit on the new rims.

Johndeere 4000 used part number AR649R I think you should be able to find a new 1 or even a used 1 at a salvage yard.

Probably not be any help, but about 10 years ago I replaced the rears on my R. Since the 16.9 were pretty worn out, I replaced them with 18.4 and the wider rims. Don't remember where I got the rims but I think it was from a tractor salvage. I still have the old 16.9 tires and rims still mounted and if my memory serves me right, the rims are in good shape.

Forgot that I have two 34 R rims, one without a tire on it, that I had rigged up for duals on a 820 back in the 1960's. Has a good valve stem hole that looks a little thin on one side but has a nice round hole. If you have to revert to repairing your rim, I would be happy to cut a chunk out and sending it to you. Check out the pics.

@jdbrawner - I can t find your email address in your profile. Can you email me pics and prices?

I need to extend a very big thank you to David from Kansas. David has shared so much knowledge with me on this tractor and let s not forget that he was generous enough to basically give me a fantastic set of rear rims for my R. I have them at the COOP getting new tubes and should be able to mount them this next week. I can t wait to be able to finally drive this tractor, this has been months and months just getting this tractor home, getting the pony running, getting the big engine unstuck and now running like a sewing machine. Much of my success is due to David s help. Thank you so much, David, I pray I can someday help you in any way needed.
