Extra Steering wheel for H John Deere

How rare is the steering wheel with the stub shaft that came with my Electric start H? I have never used it and was thinking of using it on another application. I haven't compared them but don't think it was the same size as the Steering Wheel on the H. Since my tractor is pretty much Original I do want to keep it that way if I ever decide to pass it on? I hate having stuff around that I never use?? Cleddy

Those stub shafts (AH977R) were furnished with every tractor that left the factory with a starter, or starter and lights. (Lighting only, without a starter was also an option, but would not have included the AH977R.) A special steering wheel was not included. You were supposed to remove the existing steering wheel and use that with the stub shaft, then replace the steering wheel after you had started the tractor. If the steering wheel you have is not the same as a standard H steering wheel, it apparently came from another source.

The Operator's Manual shows the details!

Thank you two for the information. I have the stub somewhere and that will stay with tractor if I ever find it again. The extra steering wheel I have is at least 3 inches larger and green with a taper id hub and has a name on the back like Speeler or some thing? It may be for a A or B since this tractor came from a JD family. It is in very good condition since it been on the shelf most of its life but I am quite sure Hand Cranking is not for me Cleddy
