44 A oil filter assembly

Ok so I need some help on the assembly of the oil filter parts. I'm at the point in my project where the crank case is put back together and I want to put some oil in and turn everything over and make sure I have oil coming out of oil lines. my filter head and the outlet tube are one piece and get bolted thru the oil filter housing ... according to the parts manual the outlet tube is separate from the filter head? and also has a metal plate for the filter to push against. I am completely lost. Never figured the oil filter assembly would be the most confusing part of this project

This drawing is from a G but should be the same as the A. Just p0out it together in the order it shows.

I agree I have the same diagram. Problem is my 39 and 45 parts on your diagram are one piece and get assembled from the top of the housing so I have no flat plate to go into the filter housing for the filter to sit against. So I'm not sure what I'm missing here

Maybe I am missing part 45? I was just confused because my filter head has the outlet tube already on it. Does part 45 just slide over top of the outlet tube?

If you removed a brass oil filter, you won't have #45 in your oil filter housing. #45 is installed when changing from a brass filter to the current paper filter. #45 the oil filter tube is pressed into the
housing #39. I use a block of wood to tap it in place. It should stay with the oil filter housing once installed. Hope this helps.

(quoted from post at 04:44:14 03/26/23) The washer is part of the tube.
When I got the tractor it didn't have a filter in it all it had was 2 steel plates and a spring laying in the bottom of the filter cup...so I'm starting to think i have part #45 but its broken? Which is why i have two steel plates in the cup.... when I put it all back together I assumed the outlet tube and filter head were on piece. If that makes sense

It's been a couple of years, but I think there is a ridge built into the tube that holds the upper plate from falling out when the filter is removed. I haven't worked on one that old, but of all that I have seen #39 & #45 are separate parts. The service manual shows how to make a tool to remove the tube #45. I'll go out and take a picture of the removal tool that I made years ago.

Well I figured it out thanks for all the help guys.. the 2nd steel plate I had somehow ended up in the cup so ended up having to take the outlet tube out and put the water back on...I thought I was going to drive myself crazy trying to figure it out

Glad you figured it out. Here's another diagram from the JD 60 service manual, and a couple of pictures of the removal tool. Last pic is of the lock to hold the bent ends in the filter tube. Lock is a sectioned piece of 1 1/4'' pipe.
