3pt set up for Late A

Looking to put a 3pt set up back on our '49 A. It had one when we bought it back in the '80s, but the arms wore out, and Dad tossed the parts.

I am NOT interested in laying out the cost of a good used car for a #800 or #801 hitch: genuine Deere but needlessly expensive (which is sometimes a redundant statement).

Anyway, I am looking for recommendations and tales of experience with whatever set up/brand you might have.

In Mid-MO, and also looking for recommended sources.

TiA.

I liked the Deere 800 series the best. I just remove the top link cross piece and hook the arms
directly to the outside of the uprights with a longer pin to hold it all together. The aftermarket ones
I had the arms were longer and made your front end lighter.
I think I could buy a Deere hitch cheaper then a used car that ran. I last one I sold I couldn't get
600 out of it.

FYI last time I tried using the email function it didn't work. This was not too long ago either.
Maybe you will have better results.

I tried the email, Pete: let me know if you get it.

The gist is this: I am concerned sipping will be horrendous. We do have a Fastenal locally . . . .

Don't know anything about it but there is
a 3 point for a JD A listed at Harris
consignment sale in Holton Ks this
weekend. Probably a longer drive than you
might be interested in.

This one was on the G that I bought about four years ago.

A good used complete aftermarket 3 point hitch for a JD A will probably cost in the $400
neighborhood. And will not have the sliding draft arms like an 800 series hitch which are
quite handly when hooking up. An 800 version of the 800 series hitches probably can be
purchased around $600. Why not spend the extra $200 fro something that has continuing
good resale value and that is more uaseable? Using the evener bar is not necessary.
But... please keep in mind JD did not recommend using any form of three point hitch on
the late A's or B's for several reasons but the primary one is the pressed steel front
frames were very light in the front end and JD did not offer any kind of front frame
weights for those two tractor models. So be careful how heavy a 3 point hitch implement
is used as it will significantly upset the balance of the tractor making it potentially
dangerous.

Dean,
I guess the price of JD hitches has come down. The last time I looked at them, they were easily twice that and more. Your point about the price difference is noted.

I am not planning on using big implements or super heavy ones. I need a back blade to clean out some ditches along our road and driveways. I could buy another tractor, but that seems silly (and I'd need to make the shed bigger again).

This is what I did with my 70. I bought an 800 hitch on a farm sale. I didnt like the top link. So I bought an
aftermarket but did not like the arms. So I use the 800 but I use the aftermarket top link section. Works
pretty well.
