Dim alternator light

The alternator light on the dash of my tractor barely glows at all.

The tractor is a 1964 3020 Diesel with PowerShift. It has been converted to 12V with alternator.

When I disconnect the wire to the alternator lamp at the key switch and put 12 volts to the wire, the dash light glows brightly. When I check the "Gen" stud on the key switch with the switch on it shows 12 volts.

So, why would the light not glow bright with the 12 volts from the key switch as it does when powered by my PowerProbe? (Yes, I cleaned the connections with electronic cleaner spray. And jiggled the wire at the connector.)

Thanks in advance for any ideas.

There is a ''pellet resistor'' of about
50 Ohms permanently attached to the
ignition switch that drops the voltage to
it's generator lamp terminal to allow a
12 Volt indicator lamp to be used on a 24
Volt system. Find another terminal with
power that goes on and off with the turn
of the key and move the power wire to the
lamp there. You will have to make a ''T''
splice into another wire or use a little
brass specialty adapter that connects two
1/4'' female connectors to a single male.

FWIW, on later 24 Volt tractors the
resistor was moved into a wiring adapter
lead that plugged into the pigtail of the
indicator lamp socket.

On FIL late 4010 I changed from 24 to 12 volts and used the charge light to excite #1 pin on Delco alternator. On the ignition switch I moved the light connection from GEN to LTS A or LTS B. These are 12 volt feeds to the light switch.
