(quoted from post at 11:55:00 03/15/23) Looking to find a starter for a Model R JD. Anybody know where to look? Part number is AR587R (1107082)

Subs to Wilson 91-01-3961.

ONE source, some local auto parts stores should have access wot Wilson/BBB.

Thank you. I had found that cross over already, as well as many others, including Dixie, BBB, Boston Auto etc but all have led to dead ends. Got lucky and found a supplier in the USA that has a core but wants a high $ due to the rarity.

The hunt goes on!

The starter on my R pony motor quit a couple of years ago so I took it to the local starter/generator repair shop. Armature
was toast. Repairman was able to come up with a new armature he found in the state of Washington. I had called a couple of
salvage yards looking for a starter with no success. All is well now.

We currently have a core that has been sent out to be rebuilt. My customer wants a backup unit on the shelf, ready to go as he has other units it will run on. Tricky things to find, for sure.

Just an update, found one for a great price in North Dakota. The people were pleasant to deal with and accomodating in my request for pictures. Would defenitely deal with them again.

Just a quick note about something I learned the hard way, make sure the mating surfaces of the starter and pony are good and clean. I thought I had bad starter and a bad replacement, but it turned out to be that it wasn't grounding properly.
