Hydraulic hoses

My loader needs new hoses. Is there a good place to order online and get a good price? Last time I had one made locally it cost about $120 for one hose. I don't know if that's expensive or not, it was just a 2' hose with threaded fittings.

Yes, Surplus Center, Lincoln NE, see link. Not sure how
the prices are if you want a specific length made. But if
you choose from the selection of in stock hoses they
have the prices what I have seen have been
reasonable.

I just replaced four hoses on my loader. I got them from Universal Hose and Fittings. Seem to be of good quality and had them made to length.

The last time I replaced a hose was on an FEL. It was about a 3 foot hose. I took the old hose in to Nappa and they made me a new one right on the spot. Don't remember what exactly it cost me but being that it was not a "shocker" price, I'm pretty sure it was very reasonable.

Dunno if you have a Tractor Supply store nearby. They sell pre-made hydraulic hoses in popular lengths - 4 feet, 5 feet , etc. Their prices are incredibly less , like half, of places like NAPA, or hydraulic hose shops. I dont know how TS does it. I must say I only have 4 or 5 hoses from them and the oldest one is about 5 years old......but no problems yet. Wish I had found them earlier.

Maybe "you get what you pay for" applies.

I use some "off the shelf" hoses and some "custom made" hoses based on what is needed. I have not had any problems with the off the shelf hoses and keep some hoses and adapters on hand in case of a blown hose at a bad time. The saving in many cases for me is the parts store is closer than the farm store with ready-made hoses, which if figuring in use of time and a vehicle increases the true cost of the ready-made hose.

Some of the lower pricing is due to the hoses they offer.

Generally, they are even foot lengths, maybe some by 6" differences. Fitting choices are limited with on the shelf ready-made hoses and usually the same on both ends. Hose and fittings are often not from the commonly known manufacturers (Gates, Aeroquip, Danfoss, Parker) the retail stores use to make hoses (that doesn't mean their hose and fittings are not compliant to proper specifications). They have, or have made, many of a given size at a time so it can be an assembly line process. You walk in, pick one off the shelf that closely matches yours, then get a couple adapters if needed to make connections, if the ends aren't the same as your old one, and check out. No store help involved other than at check out, not even then if they have a self-checkout you use.

Compare those type efficiencies to your local parts or hydraulic store. You come in with a hose. Someone has to take it and match up the hose and find the correct fittings, which may be different on each end (items they have to have in bulk stock in case needed). They then have to cut the hose to length, often to inches to match your old hose, and set the coupling press up for your fittings, before sliding the fittings into the hose and crimping them. Then they look up prices and check you out. A good bit of labor involved, stock carried, and special tooling maintained for a few hoses.

There is a place for both. If you are going to order online you need to understand and be able to select the proper hose, fittings and adapters you will need.

Price of a hydraulic hose varies a lot depending on hose size, pressure rating and type of fittings used, your location can also have a big effect on price
Here a standard 2 wire 1/4” hose rated for 5000 psi cost around $10 per foot, 3/8” - 1/2” hose cost a few dollars pre foot more.
A high pressure 4-6 wire hose usually in 1” or larger can cost well over $100 per foot plus fittings.
Fitting prices have a large price swing depending on the style needed, a 90 degree JIC swivel fitting is 3 times the price of a straight pipe fitting

Last year a 1/4” hose 13’ long with straight JIC swivel fittings cost me $145, a 3/4” hose 6’ long with one straight JIC male and one 80 degree JIC swivel cost $175

post your hose. were guessing here. no size quoted. nor the ends required. the bigger the hose the more it costs to make them. far as my experience is making a hose is cheaper than buying it made up.

As rustred posted, you haven't given us enough info to even provide a reasonable guess. Hose Inner diameter and the type on end fittings it has are needed. We have no idea of what your loader is or which hose you need that can make a difference. If it is a John Deere that uses one male NPT thread hose end with a swivel made into it those add cost. If the place made it out of 4 wire hose, it (and the fittings for that hose) will be more expensive than if two wire hose and fittings were used.

Can you tell us the hose and the ends you need on it? If you want to order hoses online you need to know what hose and fittings you need, just saying you want a 2-foot hose won't work.
