SCV on older 20 series

I have a 1964 3020, which has the SCVs under the hood.

On one of them, the set screw for automatic lever kick-out is sheared. See pic.

My question: can I remove the front cover of the SCV to deal with the broken set screw without all the innards exploding out of calibration?

Best to have valve off and standing on end. Under cover there is 5 packings, 4 valve springs, 4 balls, 4 poppet valves, 1 flow
control valve, spring and rod. And small O-ring packing. Will require moving all six bolts and jam nut on flow control valve
adjusting screw to get cover off. Good news if you keep all parts in same location you will not affect clearance adjustments and
valve will not need to be adjusted if its working fine now. If you have to adjust, it requires valve blocking plate, dial indicator
and know how. After you done many of these you will get real good at it. Probably not a job for a novice. If you like a challenge
go for it. First one I did was in 1977. Last one was about a month ago. Seal kit 50-60 bucks. DW

Thanks for the reply. You certainly sound like the voice of experience. That must be a tricky skill to learn.

Good to know that I can just remove the cover. (The valve works fine) I was not planning to remove the valve and stand it on end, but if that's what it takes ...

Wish me luck.
