JD 2630 bell crank needle bearings

Greetings folks, I plan to replace the bell crank needle bearings on my 2630. There s a c clip and washer on the bottom of the bell crank shaft where the bearings go. I m wondering if I remove the clip and washer will the bearings drop out the bottom? Will I be able to slide the new needle bearings back in without taking the whole front axle off ? Thanks

I agree with Tx Jim, you have to pull the front axle to service the bellcrank.

The needle bearings are secured in the outer race, they won't drop out the bottom (unless totally destroyed) to change them. Are you sure which needle bearing yours has, if it has needle bearings, not bushings? There were several different arrangements used.

your bell crank shaft might be worn, you can get one from A & I...you must have a good press to get it out and back in...I have made the bell crank shaft from chromed hydraulic cylinder rod .. John Deere store can get A&I products..

thanks fellas for the responses.I m new to this posting stuff so I hope this goes to the right place. I m not positive that it has needle bearings but will find out when I get it apart. It has a loader and the casting number on the knee axle says it s a heavy duty axle. According to the JD parts catalog sn -225890 uses needle bearings. My sn is 215901T I think the- before the sn means sn less than listed.

I have driven out races for tapered wheel bearings with a drift pin are these driven out the same way.

just a little history, the reason I m changing the bearings. When I back up and turn the wheels the arm of the Bell crank rubs the axle. The only place I see that the movement could be is at the bell crank shaft bearings.

Since you are replacing them (needle bearings or bushings0, driving them out about anything will work since they are junk. To install them you will want to use a driver that fits the bearing/bushing. Pressing or pulling in with a rod is better than driving with a hammer to install them.
