Trivia question about JD toolbox?

Anyone know what year handle on black JD toolbox was changed from metal to plastic? I'm thinking sometime after 1982.
Thanks, Jim

Jim - That sounds about the right time frame. I have one mounted on every one of my tractors. The early ones with steel handles are my preferred ones.

Jim: I think 82 is pretty close; I'm thinking it was some time in production of the 50 series or early 55 series tractors, that the part # RE275591 was sub for AT220070 [ original Dubuque part #] that came out in 65 with 1020 & 2020 tractors.. In a JD Merchandise cat. from 85 they show JD full tool box line , all with plastic handles, The whole plastic handle box [IMHO] was made a lot 'cheaper' ..Some of them used a dif. mounting bracket..Part # T23033 changed to L39119...All the Lit.I have of the 55 series tractors, shows pic's of the cheaper [dif. design] plastic handle box....

Thanks for the replies. On another forum a poster stated their 4240 came new with a toolbox with a plastic handle is the reason for my question. I was thinking 40 series was a little too early.
Thanks, Jim
