1070 won't start

My 1070 started normally and was driven 100 yards and turned it off. When I tried to restart it 5 minutes later it was
totally dead. By this I mean that in the 'on' position none of the dash indicators lit up. And no crank either.

I checked the battery connections and there was 12.5V at the battery's terminals and between the frame and the positive
battery wire. All fuses are good. I haven't checked the fusible link yet, but it is next.

I've had this tractor for 25 years with no issues at all. Now this. Do any of you guys have any other ideas?

Thanks!

Could be as simple as a bad ground (or even PoS) or cable connection. Terminals can look fine external but still be bad underneath. Remove and clean each n every cable and connection and ground, pos and neg. Is the battery okay ?? been load tested ??

I've had one or two of these series where the linkage may have gotten just a bit sloppy and cut out the connection where a safety switch was involved. A long shot but a quick one. Make sure PTO lever is fully in off position. May have bumped it with foot.

Thanks for your response. I was finally able to load check of the battery and found it was OK and at about 36% state of charge. Since it was nearly 10 years old, I got a new one as well as a new ground cable. This fixed the problem. Still need to check that the alternator is the charging to the correct voltage.

My expectation is that a low battery would result in dimming of lights or a slow crank. This failure was binary. Started normally and the dash lights were normal intensity then nothing the next time I tried to start it.

I am still a bit baffled as before I replaced the battery and ground cable, I measured the battery voltage at its terminals and it was above 12V. I also measured the voltage between the frame and the starter and it was the same voltage as measured at the battery whether the the tractor was turned on or off. It appears that perhaps there is a very voltage sensitive component and that the fix may only be temporary.
