Got new O rings etc installed on hydraulic. New wiper also. Wondering what the secret to getting Ustinov rod through new wiper. I dont want to force it but seems awfully tight. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I dont know where you are but its winter here can you warm the seals maybe in a pot of hot water and lube everything with hydraulic oil

Im in se North Carolina. Pretty warm here right now but I was thinking the same thing. Not sure whether to cool piston rod or warm up the wiper seal. Ill try warming it in some hot water and see what happens.

It should not be an easy slip fit. The rod should have just a bit of a chamfer to the edge. That and the shape of the wiper lip should let it slide on. Lube it good. It will be tight but with a bit of force, rocking, and wiggling they will generally go over the end of the rod. Sometimes rotating the gland, while pushing it on, helps the wiper lip onto the rod.

I would try to find a pin or bolt or something that can be fit inside the roll pin hole on the end of the rod. The o-ring inside the rod guide might get cut when trying to slide it past the roll pin hole. I remember this being an issue when I did mine but hindsight is always 20/20.
