1945 JOhn Deere B with a Wico X mag.

I've been using my B to haul firewood to the wood pile. It has been running great until I started it to take a load to the woodpile this morning. It started but with the transmission in neutral and clutch disengaged ran like it was pulling a big load up a big hill. Would hardly move itself in low gear. Nothing was tight or binding. I figured it must be timing. I took the mag off my AR and put it on the B and now it runs fine. I wonder what is wrong with the mag to make it out of time.
 
There's a chance the problem may well be SOMETHING DIFFERENT THAN TIMING !!!!! Over 250 RPM when the impulse stops functioning timing can change by rotating the mag assembly or the points gap can change etc. Often points that are burned pitted or even only oxide coated can cause problems followed by cap or rotor tip issues. Check the points (clean check gap) and cap n rotor in addition to timing....
