Going to look at a 60 today, to replace my B . I have a 45 loader and a #5 sickle mower, so I would like live hydraulics and pto.
Anything that I should look for? I guess most of the stuff would be internal, that I cant see.
Thanks. Dennis

Not all model 60s had power steering, live hydraulics, and live PTO. Make sure the seller demonstrates these functions to you.

Live hydraulics has a pump on the left side of the governor with an On/Off lever. Engine OFF before you turn the pump ON.

Live PTO has a lever on the right side of the seat that you lift UP to engage the PTO. You first have to engage the PTO lever by your right foot the same as you do on your B, the engine has to be OFF before you do this.

I don't Think the Loader would be a direct bolt over, need differen't mounts. The 60 would be frame width of a late A and t is a couple of inches wider than any B. I am guessing your loader mounts to front frame of tractor.

JD 60's are noted for having loose/worn clutch divers on the end of the crankshaft and cracked blocks due to over torquing the head bolts, causing cracks around the studs. Should have factory power steering when mounting a loader and live pto if you run an external pump.

No unusual to find the exhaust manifold cracked around the hot/cold valve . Not unusual for the gasket to be blown out between the manifolds and the head .
The solution is to machine the head flat and square on a mill. No amount of glue and gaskets will hold if the matching surfaces are eroded.
As previously stated. Many blocks have been cracked by morons using a breaker bar and over torqueing the head studs. In an attempt to stop coolant seepage .

The PTO shaft is off-center on a live PTO tractor. A regular PTO is centered on the rear end. Power steering should have a hole/cap to add steering fluid in the cap below on the tin of the nose piece,

Different model loaders will mount different ways. Is your loader a Deere and the orignal posters loader? Don't know if they are or are not.

Check the end of the crankshaft you can by popping the clutch cover off and making sure the driver is tight with splines That look good.

Thanks, I knew there was something that could be bad with the block. Anyway it ended that I did not even go look at it. I an really looking for a 50. And no more than I use the tractor I can get by with what I have. Also at age 78 I dont need any more work.

Yes it is a Deere 45. I am sure that it would work. I have talked myself out of buying the 60. More work and expense, plus I dont really have room before selling the B.

I have a 50 that I will consider selling. Also have a 45 loader that was on the 50 and I would include that loader for no extra $$$. Email should be open.
