6V Rural king surprise

Just got home from a local (within 30 mi.) Rural King store in Mt. Vernon. This is one of the cleanest most well stocked farm supply stores I have ever seen. We have another RK store about the same distance away in the opposite direction that is the exact opposite.

I was on a mission to get some 6V tractor batteries which are the the least expensive I have found at $69 ,were $59 one year ago. I looked at my trade ins and found I had one from John Deere, one from Family Farm and Home and one RK brand. They usually last at least five years and are in all price ranges. Some of my 6V tractors seldom leave the barn and if they do it's to go to a show where they just set.

My surprise was that this RK store had 15 6V batteries in stock and most were marked with manufacture date of Jan 2023 with just a couple Dec 2022. I have never seen anything like that so I got three and that will cover for now.

I have about 4 fairly local RK & TSC stores, they usually have several 6V batteries on the shelf. If they don't, I also have an Interstate battery distributor, Batteries Plus and a NAPA DC. 6V batteries are plentiful here, unlike some who have a hard time finding them. 3 of my tractors are 6V and the other 4 are hand crank.

Thanks for the information, I have 6 tractors that 6v and the only place I have found near me is NAPA, so I'll have to do some more shopping.

That's good to hear, I expect to need one for our Farmall C this year. I have been seeing 6 volt golf cart
batteries here in AZ for $105, but they are quite a bit bigger than a tractor battery.

Normally RK keeps a very good stock
of batteries. Last year not so
much. I hope they got their supply
issues straightened out.

Our nearest RK looks like they do not pay their suppliers invoices.
Dark, dingy, 30 to 50% empty shelves.
What is in stock is maybe one whole case on the shelf.
But been that way for five years now.
Two more forty miles north and south are just the opposite, nearly full shelves and bright and clean.

Couldn't keep a 6V battery going for more than a couple of years so I replaced them on my 2-cyl JD diesel tractors with pony
motors a few years ago with AGM batteries and so far, so good. Will see in a couple more years. Oh, also, I think the AGM
batteries are a little stronger.

My six volt tractors crank and start just as good as the ones that are converted to 12 volt. The last six volt I bought was 2018 from Orschealns farm and home.
Cost $84.99. Today they are $110.99. The new Bogaars store that opened 40 miles west of here have six volt batteries on sale regularly for $59.99. That's where
I'm going next time I need one.

My 1951 John Deere B starts and runs great on 6 volts. Dont even remember the last time I put in a new battery, would have to go to the file and look it up.

Would not a golf cart battery be a deep cycle battery? Something that is designed for being just about run down
before recharging? Not like a tractor battery that is ment to be charged when tractor is running.
