Two Issues with 1985 John Deere 1050

I bought a 1985 John Deere 1050 from a widow. It had sat under a tree for several years since her husband died. After reclaiming it from the wasps and rodents, I replaced nearly all the hoses and wires, new battery, new alternator, all new fluid and filters and finally got it to crank. It runs quite well except for two issues 1) The charge light stays on, accordingly it runs down the battery. I thought the new alternator would fix that. I'm thinking the voltage regulator may be the issue but I can't find one on the machine (could be my ignorance). Any help is appreciated. 2) The 3pt hitch would not move. After replacing the filter, cleaning the screen and adding new fluid (the old fluid was the nastiest I'd ever seen), the 3pt will raise very slowly but has no lift. I can stand on it when its up and it will go down. It will slowly raise when I get off of it, but if I stand on it again it will lower. Again I appreciate any ideas. I will say it cranks and runs quiet well other than these two issues.

As to the voltage regulator, it's down below the instrument panel, behind the fuel tank on the RH side (IIRC).

If you are at all into electronics, before replacing the VR, take a look underneath for a diode with pigtails soldered in place. If the battery has been connected backwards it can be shorted.

Replacing it with a new 3 Amp 1000PIV diode (1N5408) for under a buck is a LOT cheaper than replacing the VR.

Sounds as if rockshaft piston seal is faulty. Rockshaft piston seal is CH11567 & CH10992. Seal for RS cap is CH11572. Voltage regulator should resemble photo but I have no idea where it's located on tractor.

Finally got to work on my tractor again today. Installed the new solid state voltage regulator and I think I have the charging problem licked. As far as the hydraulics I have not had any luck. The rockshaft piston seals all look good. I cleaned the sump screen again. Given the 3pt raises slowly, I assume the pump still works. I'm at a loss. I hate to haul it over to John Deere, but I've run out of options. I appreciate any ideas. BTW, thanks Tx Jim and Wore Out for your ideas.
