John Deere 2640 gas tank

I have a hole somewhere in my fuel tank. Has anyone removed a tank and how difficult is it.I have a manual and the job does not seem to bad. ANy advice on the removal appreciated and how is the best way to repair the hole in the tank. Thanks Greg

You will have to remove the tank, clean it and inspect it. You may find the location of the leak as you remove it and look at it. Many tanks have pinholes at the bottom where water settles. Repair may be as easy as soldering one tiny hole. Consider applying a high quality fuel tank sealer before installation. If repairs fail, then there are aftermarket and used tanks available.

Remove hood. Remove side panels. Remove front panels. Drain tank. Then remove fasteners where tank attaches to frame should be fairly straightforward since its up front in the nose. Then replace with poly tank that wont rust. Shouldnt leak for you or the next owner. Ill peak tomorrow at the 2640 I have split for a clutch shaft reseal and see if theres anything else that stands out

I think one can disconnect air cleaner housing & radiator support rod, disconnect fuel line at bottom & return line at the top(item 3). Then remove 2 capscrews(item 9) on each side & fuel sender wire then pull tank leaving nose piece in place. IIRC one needs to pull tank to have access to bolts holding nose piece to front support.
