Model R with Leaking Rear Main Seal on Starting Engine

I have a John Deere Model R. The starting engine has a leaking rear main seal. I have taken off the transmission, clutch, and flywheel. I can see the seal. It seems to me
the only way to replace the seal is to remove the crankshaft. The service manual is not explicit if you are looking to only replace the seal, not do an engine rebuild. Am I
missing something?

Could you CAREFULLY pull it out with a auto-body dent remover slide hammer that uses a sheet metal screw?

HOPEFULLY, the main bearing/bushing next to it isn't worn, allowing the crankshaft to move around.

Wore Out,

Thanks for your reply. I went out yesterday and was able to puncture the seal with a punch, and use a screwdriver to pry it out. Managed to not scratch the crankshaft.
The new seal went in easily. Saved me a lot of work. Thanks again.
