technique on removing/installing lower pedestal bushing

Hi all. Has anyone had the opportunity of removing the lower pedestal bushing on a narrow front end John Deere B tractor? Is it possible to use a pipe long enough inserted down through the top of the pedestal catching the top edge of the bushing and knocking it out through the bottom? Or possibly a certain model slide hammer knocking it out from the bottom of pedestal or is there a stop/lip inside pedestal where bushing bottoms out? Also when installing a replacement bushing, again, is there a stop/lip inside the pedestal for the bushing to bottom out so the bushing doesn't go in too far? Thanks in advance.
