1949 B Oil Filter Assembly

See the pictures. Any of you have this same metal plate on top of your oil filter? Just trying to confirm this is correct.

It sets on the filter nicely, but is bent in such a way it will never completely seal on top. (Maybe that's the intended purpose?) Obviously a factory made piece, not home made. Does not match the parts breakdown.

Thanks

James

Could have came from one of 2 places both of which should be flat. #'s 7 or 11.

I agree with Randy. The cap that is shown in the picture should have a flat plate, spring, keeper etc to force the filter up into the canister. That bent piece doesn't belong in there.

Does your Filter Outlet fall out as you remove the filter, or is it pressed up in there?

That washer looks very Belleville-ish, as if it were intended to maintain spring tension on the element.

The three bends are obviously to clear the three bolts holding the filter body in place. Not sure why my disk is separated from the central stem, or why it's shaped different than everyone else's.?? I'll talk to a dealer tomorrow to confirm there's no parts supersedure. May end up replacing.

My cap has all the spring loaded pieces. No concern on the bottom of the filter.

Closer inspection reveals inconsistency in the bent plate - not factory bent. I will replace it.

Thanks guys.

We have the washer and center tube available . There is a special tool used to remove the tube and washer without damaging anything. the right tool makes all the differance. Thanks, Tom Ziegler 573-535-8952.

It's pressed up in there. You can bend a 1/4 rod with 2 hooks on it to go in the holes in the tube and with a little luck and the right pry bar you can get it to pop out.
