4020 3pt problem

I need some advice on getting my 4020 3pt working correctly again. Last winter i removed the rockshaft so i could remove the top tranny shaft. ( TimS rebuilt it and it shifts like new..Big thanks to Tim!) Since reinstalling the rockshaft the arms are either up or down. I tried to adjust it thru the hole in rear end housing with no luck. ( I have adjusted several before so i believe i am doing correctly and yes i have the tech Manuel) I am also sure the arm was sticking up when i installed the rockshaft so wondering what i am doing wrong? Thanks

IMHO the only correct method to adjust JD's L/D mechanism is open tech manual to correct page & start at adjustment #1 then continue to last adjustment following tech manual instructions verbatim. Just adjusting screw through bung normally won't cause L/D linkage to operate as designed. YMMV

I adjusted according to book thru bung and that has fixed several tractors in past. The other adjustment is thru the fill neck and i have never done one so
looking for advice before i jump into it. I am guessing that since it will raise and lower i did not mess up when reinstalling rockshaft housing. Thanks

Not sure I understand your problem clearly but I remember having trouble with my 4010 lift arms after removing the rockshaft. Turns out the gear timing got out of time in the control valve housing. I removed the housing and retimed the gears and that solved my problem. You have to make SURE the roller of the load selector control link is positioned correctly on back side of the cam follower. The service manual 2039 says you can make the same adjustment thru the filler hole but that did not work for me!

I would bet you have the cam on the wrong side of the roller or possibly off to the side. The curved part of the cam goes in front of the roller. You can get the roller to stick down farther for easier installation by moving the draft control setting. I made this mistake on a 4440 the first time I ever had a rock shaft cover off. Fortunately I didn't have to pull the cab back off, I was able to take the scv off and then the rock shaft valve off and put the cam in the correct position. Never made that mistake again, lol.
