I have a 1972 3020 diesel had no issues
Went to it 10* outside started hard a lot more than normal as soon as it started grey smoke that turned black to oil raining down it was running maybe 4-5 minutes when I tried to shut off it stayed running for 30 seconds now if I try to start turns a little feels like something holding it back like a cylinder with oil in it crankcase level is good it used a quart in 5 minutes it rained oil I did not use starting fluid to start is there anything other than a head gasket that could have done this

Welcome to this forum
When engine was operating was it firing on all cylinders? Sounds as if a piston might have a hole in it or head gasket has failed.

Could it be unburnt fuel and not oil. I have had it happen in cold weather and it looks pretty black coming out of the muffler.

IF equipped with a crankcase ventilator pump and the passage to the crankcase has clogged or frozen engine oil will be forced into the air intake.

(I'm not sure if the crankcase ventilator pumps were discontinued at some point in the production run, and some were disabled ''in the field'' and the oil supply passage plugged.)

POSSIBLY a badly clogged or frozen up air filter could cause or contribute to ingesting oil, as well.

(quoted from post at 12:16:42 12/30/22) Vent pump was my first thought but they were discontinued in 1969 when the side consoles came out. Tom

I thought that as well (that's why I worded my reply as I did), but the parts catalog says differently???

Also, the engine MAY have been swapped, it would be a good idea for the O.P. to have a look and see what's there.

Hey I thank everyone for there help
Air cleaner had water in it would have been frozen
New question how do I get the oil out?
Can I turn the flywheel backwards and use a shop vacuum on intake and exhaust?
I really do not want to pull injectors
