Price opinion on a 1937 John Deere B

My father-in-law is planning to sell his 1937 John Deere B. It was repainted about 20 years ago, and has been stored in his garage since. It was last run about 10 years ago, and it ran good then. I?m guessing a carb rebuild will be in order now. I know the motor is not stuck. It has round spoke wheels front and back. Tires were new 20 years ago, but have a fair amount of cracking now. It?s not really a family tractor per say, as he just bought it to have a classic tractor, so no real sentimental value, but I may be interested in it. He doesn?t really know what to ask for it, and is not sure he wants to monkey with getting it running again. Any opinions on what a realistic and fair price might be to both of us? Both as is, and if he were to get it running again?

I have a 1938 B w/same wheel set up but w/newer tires and same story. Restored 14 years ago. Not run in 5 years. Listed it for sale for $2800. Had 1 looker and offered me $1500. The answer was no. Here it sits.

Problem is they need to be useful now for tractor rides and farm work etc. 6 miles an hour and no hydraulics is not useful. Parades maybe. Not a good investment anymore. Very good investment to get a families young kids interested and have a fun time with them.

I'd be happy with $2200 for mine.

Thanks for your opinion. The tractors are in very similar condition, and I was thinking in the same price range as you. I don?t really need it it, but it is a nice looking tractor. It might be something fun to have.

I guess I agree too with what others has said. 800 to 1000. I say 1000.00 since it's a family member, if it wasn't family I would be leaning more toward the 800.00. As Randy said they are not USEFUL, yes if it starts well it will bring in fire wood & fix fence & rake hay if needed pull a wagon. Other than that one would really love the tractor to use it for other things & if they operated anything else of any make it would end up sitting & not being run for years, It is too darn easy to put too much money them & not be able to get that money back out. I love seeing them restored or even still being run & used & cared for, but I am also glad I'm not the owner of them all. All of my tractors are electric start, 42 B that starts easy with the steering wheel & I never use the starter & choose to to keep a good battery in it. I could go on & On but I use the B the least, it's a good tractor just not useful for my needs when I have 5 other Deeres sitting in the shed.

I would say more in the $1200-1500 range. It is an unstyled and good tires even if weather cracked. The spoked rims/wheels make it worth more too.

Wouldn't hurt my feelings to invest a couple Grand in a nice spoker just cause I like them. They are the only tricycle fronts I do like.

You have a long frame 37 there . Not a real common tractor . It did not come with those front wheels . Should be disc . That said selling it for $800-$1000 would be ridiculous . It will part out for over $2000 . Wheels , shutter , hood , gas tank , carb alone should get you there . Tires are real spendy and there are plenty that will use yours if priced sensibly . JMHO of course
