Looking to settle a debate - How rare is a 4040 open station tractor - not a cut down 4 post? There is one for sale locally with a high price tag and a few of us were debating if it is rare or not to justify the price. The tractor is nice, hours are below average, but other then that no reason for the top dollar asking price of $40k.

I bought one brand new in February 1981. I never considered it to be rare. If I had known, I guess I would have kept it. For a price comparison, I gave $22,900 for it, cash, no trade.

Wouldn't say rare. Just not common. I have one but until I see photo proof will state mine is 1 of 1. Configured as no cab, HFWD, w/powershift. 297th one built. No black panels.
