This is at my neighbors place. 1965 5010 with factory cab. Not original for sure. Split intake manifold with dual dry filters. Guessing this had a turbo at one point which is not unusual and I have a 5010 that used to have a turbo. I ve never seen a split intake manifold on these. And I didn t think enough to get the serial number off the engine.

That one has probably a 5020 motor or head put on.
I have seen more than one 5010 with the upgrade, and have owned one.

Apparently the 5010 had a oil bath air cleaner, see link.
So this appears to be an effort to use dry element
filters. Towards the comments about an added turbo
charger, the split manifold would only complicate that
installation. I wonder if this was a ..farmerization.. or if some company offered this set up. I cannot remember if Deere intakes were cast or aluminum? So the original manifold would need cut and each half capped and then the rear inlet added.

The 5020 manifold had a front and a rear intake. THe rear one is blocked off on the 5020, and the front one is blocked off on the 760 scraper.

The split manifold refers to the 6 intakes pipes compared to the only 3 intake pipes on the 5010. The 5010 has also a different exhaust manifold. Complete head needs to be swapped to get the 5020 manifold on a 5010.

I do not think that this tractor ever had a turbo. The MW kit made a big hole in the hood. That one still has the factory muffler. From tractordata, this one is a 1965.
The 1963 are 5010s are the only true 5010s's. After that, they put the 4020 dash on the 5010, and they looks more like a 20 series than a 10 series when you drive them.

It looks to me like someone took the factory manifold, cut it half and capped both ends like you said. Pretty sure this is a 5020 engine since the dealers around here were pretty aggressive in updating 5010s to 20s. Plus when the 20 came out, JD had a program to update 5010 engines to 20s. 5010 engines were anemic at best. Plus this could be a dealer mod. Our local dealer at the time was famous for modifying tractors and combines some of which mother Deere took notice of.
