JD Van Brunt grain drill question

What is this part/parts called on the back of this drill? I have had it about a year and used it once, worked good,,,,but I just now noticed it looks like some of the parts of this gear are broken off. It also looks like the square rod is twisted slightly. Any insight on this is appreciated. Im curious what this controls and if I should be looking for a replacement part?

Does it have a separate box for fertilizer? Those gears may drive the fertilizer shafts if that box is there. If the square shaft is really twisted it could be from the fertilizer box being stuck from not being cleaned properly and lubricated.

Yep, that's the fertilizer box drive. If you don't use the fertilizer box, and the main drive is locked out so the fertilizer drive shaft doesn't try to turn, don't worry about it.

Yes it has a fert box. I have never used it. It is rusted pretty good. I didnt even think that it could be to that. Thanks!
