2630 won't go in park

2630 has the set-up where you put right hand gear lever in first gear and it opens the gate for the left lever to go into Park position, but the left lever won't go into the park position. Tractor starts in neutral, most had to be in P to start. Wonder if in it's 48 year lifetime a late 2640 tranny was installed or am I missing something?

They will all start in neutral. I hate those spring loaded gear shifts with the park lock. My 2040 sometimes you need to move it slightly to get it into park. I have changed several back to strait gearshift and threw the lock on the dash away. Tom
