4020 gas engine

Is a running 4020 gas engine worth anything . It is sitting in my garage. Have tried selling it, no takers but I hate to just throw it away.

A few years ago I had 4 4020 Gas engines on the pallet rack, one had just been over hauled before I took it out,,so I put the best one in the Farm and Dairy paper for North Eastern Ohio,,thinking some one might want it for a winter feeding tractor,,I got one call and the guy wanted to know what I did with the rest of the tractor,,I couldn't give them away so they went to the scrape yard...which is right where they belong...

Maybe one of the fellows on here that can make a JD 4020 gas run "right" will want a spare motor.

I have a good friend that runs a salvage yard. He does not even worry with the gas JD motors. They go in a big pile out back and when scrap goes up they get hauled to town.

hey todd, i am looking for a 4020 engine but it has to be a correct year
is it possible you could send me some pix
any idea what year you think it is.
my email is open.
thanks

The zenith carb (cast iron) is much better than the Marvel carb on a 4020 or 3020. They seem to start and work better. I still am not a fan of 3020-4020 gas tractors. I have also sold some 105 combine zenith carbs to go on 4020's. I am not sure any older gas tractor runs good on today's gas. Tom

I got a recent take out complete with starter, PS flywheel, generator, Cast Iron Zenith carburetor, new intake and exhaust manifolds. Good engine just a gas. Can be started and hear it run. $1200.00 Takes it all. Located in Eastern Iowa. Three19-3eight9-six1three1.

Not much market....
In my case I have two 4020 loader tractors.
Thought I wouldn't want a gas but they start
in any weather. I can run them in the shop
removing engines etc. For those reasons I
prefer the gas but these are special circumstances.
They would use too much fuel and produce too much
heat for most regular jobs.

So what you are saying is carbon monoxide from a John Deere gasoline engine is harmless.

Do you happen to still have the gas engine for a 4030 John Deere? If so what year of a tractor was it in? Thanks Rob

Rob, welcome to YT! You either mistyped your reply or misread the post title. You say 4030, the post is titled 4020 and that is the engine he said he had. The early 4020 gas tractors used a 340 CID engine. The 1966 and later models used a 362 CID. The 4030 used a 303 that was only available in the 1973 models. I am not sure about the interchangeability of these engines. Lastly, the last post here by Todd1969 was in Sep. 2020.
