JD 300B clutch issues

Hello everyone, first time poster here.

I'm having a issue with the clutch on my 300B backhoe (same as a 300 utility or a 1020 I believe) that just appeared yesterday out of nowhere. I've had the unit for about a month now and bought it off a good friend of mine who has had no issue with the clutch for the entire time he owned it. I've only driven it around the yard and put MAYBE 2hrs total on the unit with no clutch issues at all.

I parked it 3 days ago next to my garage and had no clutch problems. Fired it up yesterday to move it to cut grass underneath it and I have no clutch. Won't go into gear running because it just grinds gears with the clutch depressed. Again I had no problem with it three days ago and I haven't touched it at all in that time. It can easily shift gears when not running and can fire up (in some of the low gears/range) and drive but the clutch is doing nothing. Being that it was sitting completely still and not running I can't imaging that the clutch magically decided to give up the ghost and this must be something stupid simple.

I saw another similar post from 15years ago and they claimed that tying the pedal down and running it in gear may break it loose but I tried that to no avail. I'm very mechanically versed in cars but these tractors are a bit alien to me.

any advice or things to try are greatly appreciated.

Basic thing first. Start by checking the linkage. I would start at the pedal and work toward the actual clutch. It may be as simple as something came loose or a pin fell out. Just like one would in a car or truck with a clutch.

Good starting point. I can confirm that the linkage is still intact.

Furthermore if I remove the inspection cover on the side and press the pedal I can watch the clutch assembly go in and out, or at least move in some capacity (hard to look straight on with the loader)

Update for anyone who finds this post in years to come. Based on other past posts I was able to solve this issue. I had to put my bucket and hoe down (dug into the dirt) shift her into gear and start her up. rocking/grinding her into forward or reverse. after doing this about 4 times the clutch finally broke free and started to work.

After getting some clutch back, I drove her in circles in high gear for about 10 minutes, constantly pumping the clutch pedal, and eventually I got full use of the clutch back.

You did the right thing and it came loose.. - GOOD - But M-MAN has the answer.. Many foot pedal
tractors with dry clutch disk do have a latch to hold the clutch pedal down (disengaged ) when not in
use.. A block of wood will work just fine ..Good post!!
