JD A gearshift will not go into gear

1952 A single lever shifter has not run in quite a few years just overhauled the engine and goes into all the gears except the ones on top of
shift pattern reverse and third and the one right across from reverse what do I need to do ?

When you say it doesn't go into gear, do you mean that something is preventing it from going into gear or does it feel like the shifter is not engaging anything? In either case, taking the top off of the transmission is going to have to be your first step in troubleshooting. That step will then allow you to see if it is a fork and shifter issue or if something in the gearing is not meshing.
