trying to remove manifolds on JD 4630

This has been a real challenge as the bolts holding the intercooler corroded in the block and also in the intercooler as well, too much reaction
between the aluminum and the steel but i finally have it removed. Now the exhaust was even tougher cut the bolt heads off and eventually got the
manifolds off replacing both of them but will try welding nuts on the studs hopefully this will do the job as so far heating them has not got 4
of them out yet and it is only a 5,000 2owner tractor but never been apart since built 1977

I had the same problem on an 8440.
I had to heat the studs to red hot, then quickly doused with water or wd40. It took a few times but they came out. Welding nuts to them is also a good idea, but you might have to get the whole stud hotter.

Good Luck!

I feel for ya. Time is on your side and you should try everything in the book before they break off. Patience at this point is crucial.

Had an intake manifold bolt that was already broke off flush with the head on the 4640. A good drill bit set and tap and die set saved me on that one. My experience with welding nuts hasn't been the greatest and I don't have a welder at home anyway. My experience has been if it's a 3/8" bolt or M10 drilling isn't so bad. 5/16" and M8 are challenging. Also had a couple of the bolts break for the top half of the intake manifold. Tried drilling the first one out but I ended up damaging the manifold. The other one I drilled to fit an easy- out and used a little heat and it came out. I say a little heat because it's very easy to melt the aluminum.
