Got the relief valve out. Took quite a bit of torch, about 1/4 inch of lead above the screw head. Once it melted out I used one of those sockets that looks like a big screwdriver and the copper collar came out with it. Then the rest melted real easy without the casting to draw heat. I was thinking the screw was the adjustment and the lead seal to prevent tampering. The screw goes in tight and shim washers provide adjustment but there were no washers.

Yes, that screw is as I suspected, a slotted round head. And I didn't find any adjusting washers inside the Power Lift I have, either - and the one I have appears to be completely original and is equipped exactly as yours. What's interesting is that the current parts book shows P/N 24H1R as the relief valve adjusting washer and there are supposed to be three of them. Earlier parts info (Dir. 248 and Dir. 276 as well as Repair Catalog 59-R) all show the relief valve adjusting washer(s), but non of those sources identify quantities and show the P/N for the adjusting washer as H841R. That number was apparently superseded by the newer 24H1R.

And SM-2011, the Service Manual for Hydraulics, has several illustrations of the relief valve exploded parts and shows only one relief valve adjusting washer next to the spring, and the disassembly instructions caution one not to lose pressure adjusting washers.

And parts illustrations do not show that cup-shaped copper washer, only a flat washer.

So I'm confused. Just another mystery that may never be completely solved.

Thanks very much for following up on your disassembly process. Good luck with it.
