JD 70 Rockshaft questions

I have a couple of questions about the rockshaft on my 70.
Should the power-trol pump be engaged for it to work? Should
I be able to move the rockshaft with a big wrench? Should
there be dummy plugs in the power- trol?

Previous owner did some plumbing and I dont know if thats preventing its operation. Thanks for any advice, Mark

I'M sure you have to have the pump running and I think you have to have both dummy plugs in. I can't tell by looking what the plumber had in mind, I'm sure someone here will know. You can move the rock shaft with a wrench normally if it's not doing anything.

Looks like the upper plug is not a dummy but a remote with a pipe plug in it. That may disable the rockshaft. What are those things in the bracket on the left side?

Have you turned the metering valve on the left side of the powr-trol valve box out two full turns? That is what is needed for rockshaft operation. Pump must be on.

Mark,
You're reading the manual wrong. The metering valve is turned out two turns for rockshaft operation.

It's turned all the way in for remote cylinder operation.

Yes, in certain situations.

Take a look at the [b:654c4848f0]POWR-TROL VALVE HOUSING[/b:654c4848f0] diagram below.

Note the plug (Key 1) and the oil coupling (Key 22).

Take a look at the photo below of the plug, sometimes referred to as a dummy plug.

Note that the plug has a solid, closed end.

The plugs are installed in the Powr-Trol housing when a remote cylinder is not in use.

Hope this helps.
