4630 Power Steering Follow Up

So last Tuesday, the temperature warmed up a bit and I tackled the power steering. It was in the middle 30's, so it was over 50 degrees warmer than when it failed and since I had to work on it outside, I took advantage of it.

Some of my questions may have seemed kinda dumb to those who have done this before, but things, especially plastic things, break pretty easy at -20, so I was being pretty cautious.

But armed with the information you guys gave me. it all went pretty smoothly. But long story short, once I got the assembly out, on my bench and taken apart, it was very obvious that it was the seal that failed. A portion of it had split and was pushed up through the thrust washer. Put in the new seal and new thrust washer, then back into the tractor it went. Fired it up and it worked great.

Parts cost was a pleasant surprise, about $14 for the seal and washer.

Many thanks to all those who offered advice!
