Splitting a 1520/1530

So, I've got a '74 1520 that I'm planning to split, to accommodate work on the flywheel/ring gear.

The service manual talks about using the JDG-2K Support Stand on the front half of the tractor. It looks simple enough, so I figured I'd fabricate something similar. I tried searching online to get a better look at it, and... I can't find any proof that it ever existed!

GreenParts sells a Serviceguard Splitting Stand for $3,700+, which looks nothing like what's pictured in the old service manual (and is absurdly priced!).

Has anyone ever seen or used the JDG-2K stand? Or still have one kicking around?

I was employed by JD dealer from '65-'87 & supervised splitting JD utility & rowcrop tractors. But I can't remember what utility splitting stands looked like BUT remember well what rowcrop splitting stands resembled. I guess it's danged oldtimers disease causing my problem. I personally liked the wat rowcrop stands had adjustable legs on the front part & caster wheel on the rear half back away from frt half.

I've split my 1020 several times using a floor jack under the back half and a cherry picker for the front half.

backwards of RR but worked good on a
400/ind2020 TLB. needed a gasket and
packing between the clutch housing and
tranny. Took the backhoe off relatively
simple, blocked the front up and used a
floor jack to roll the back away. You
might want to find a place farther forward
if you you're splitting between clutch and
engine

Have one and have used it. I like it for security as the tractor cannot fall from the floor jack. That being said I have used a floor jack
a lot as well

I have a friend who fabricated a simple set of splitting stands, just two pieces of heavy angle iron, one for each side. Holes were cut for the two bolts that go into the side of the engine block rear flange (slots, actually to accommodate different heights), and a large caster welded to the bottom. Bolt one one on each side, slide it in the bolt slots to adjust until the caster is firmly on the floor, and tighten it down. Worked great on his 3020 and I used them on my 1020. Would also work on my 2020 and 2440 too, but to be honest, floor jacks and jack stands are quicker and easier. Just be sure to get jack stands firmly underneath as soon as it's split. NEVER trust a floor jack to get underneath.

Oh yes, you'll hate yourself if you forget to put the wood blocks on the axles.
