Is it possible to remove the water pump from the starting engine on a 730D, without taking out the entire engine? This one is leaking and Id like to get it repaired.

Yes it can be removed without removing the cranking engine. You will want to drain the oil from the cranking engine and drain the
coolant from the diesel. Unbolt the water pipe from the left side of diesel engine block, unbolt the water pump and remove it from
the cranking engine. Sounds simple doesn't it? The little water pipes add some difficulty.

(quoted from post at 12:46:12 01/11/22) Should have said remove water pipe from the RIGHT SIDE of the diesel engine block.

Thank youthe little tube will have to be replaced and apparently the water pump was installed out of the tractor, the far bolt is 1/2 too long, hits governor before the cover can be removed. Eventually the water pump will come out.

When I work on the pony engine water pumps, I disconnect the pony engine and leave the engine on the tractor, but I pull it forward and spin it 90
degrees and rest it on the belt pulley area so you are looking directly at the pump. Keep the pony engine secured with the block and tackle used to lift
the engine. Be prepared to replace the seals, impeller shaft, resurface the backside of the impeller , the short tube from the pump to the block and all of
the needed o-rings. Pay particular attention to the location of the drive gear on the end of the impeller shaft as that needs to engage with the drive gear
in the engine w/o being too tight or too loose. Also mark the midpoint on the small tube so you can center it between and the engine block.
