Dear All,

I've been talking to someone about his JD 440C. I need a machine with a PTO and his doesn't have one, but he
postulates that one could be installed. Is that right? Nobody I've talked to has an answer. Looking forward to your
answers. Thank you!!!

A 440C is a skidder, the 440 crawlers are either a 440IC (gasoline) or 440ICD (diesel), I expect you are talking about a crawler. Yes, with enough parts a PTO can be installed. I don't think everything needed for parts will be known until one physically gets into it. I know on some others, some of the required internal parts were installed when originally built, some had none of the parts installed. I also expect you will be hunting salvage yards to find parts. I believe it will only be a plain PTO, not live (two stage clutch) or independent. If the 440IC or 440ICD has a reverser, the PTO's direction of rotation will reverse when the reverser is used.

You can study the parts catalogs online to get an idea of the parts you will need to find.

Here is a link that you can use to get to both.

There is a man named Dave Cook in northern WI that specializes in Dubuque 2 cylinder tractors. I do not have contact info but a good friend of
mine has bought lots of parts from him and his knowledge has been great. He could tell you what you need and maybe even have all the parts you
need. Tom

it should have the pto shift lever on top of the trans next to the gear shift lever, most did even if they did not originally come with the attachment.then all you need is the rear pto attachment with thee 3 bolts as i previously stated.
