John deere 4020 starter problem

Hello,

I am currently experiencing problems
starting my john deere 4020 (1969 12v).
When starting, the starter motor sprocket
does not grab the starter ring properly
causing the engine to not go around and
start. The starter ring was replaced six
months ago by the previous owner. The
starter motor gear has also been replaced
and the starter motor has been overhauled.
I have now disassembled the starter motor
and looked at the starter ring (I have
added pictures of this to this post). The
starter ring does not appear to be damaged
to the point that it needs to be replaced.
Now I am wondering what could possibly be
causing the starting problem.
Thanks in advance,
Sem

Something to think about,, do you have a gas starter,,the drive and the ring gear have a different amount of teeth...

Hello,
Thank you for your reply. The starter has 10 teeth, the ring gear has 129 teeth. Is this correct?

The problem might be the rebuilt starter ive seen them go bad in a hurry like on a 4320 i had so i put on a brand new one problem solved
