Good day Grabatire
I did indeed convert an R to strait 24 electric.....:)
Starter was originally on a Caterpillar Engine Model G333.. (6 cylinder converted to spark ignition...Natural Gas for fuel)
Charging system was a 24 Volt alternator with all associated components from a Cummins Naturally aspirated 250 unit that had been an emergency water back up...(crankshaft failed. Block exploded)

Starter Bracket was attached to a 3/8 thick plate that replaced the original inspection cover that allowed access to the R's connecting rods.
Several of the cooling ports on the block of the R's engine were tapped and threaded to NPT.

I did not own a camera back in 1974>75....:(
An individual came along that had too much $$$$$ ..I sold the R and my parts R.
There is /was a conversion kit advertised in the 2 Cylinder Magazine.

Presently wintering in Arizona...54 F.......:)
My summer residence at this time is -37 F.....:(
Bob..

Thanks for the reply Bob. I live in Central Alberta and was hoping to arrange a meeting to have a look at your starter conversion. I contacted the supplier in the States quite some time ago, but I'm kind of a do-it-yourselfer. Thanks again. Enjoy the warm temps.

R is the first 4 cylinders built in waterloo, 70 is the first sixes.

Good morning Grabatire

At some point in the early 1980's I sold both my Rs....
A transport truck arrived, off loaded two JD styled AR's..
Handed me a hand full of $$$$ and left........

Bob....

In a way he's correct... R did have 4 cylinders- 2 in the diesel, 2 in the pony. Using that logic the 70 Diesel did have 6...
