I'm looking for help and/ advice , I bought a JD 300 backhoe/ loader , it seems to be in reasonable shape, HOWEVER,. Someone removed injector pump without following the procedure to properly do the job. I have brand new pump and need to reset the whole thing up, properly and not miss any steps along the way, CAN ANYONE ADVISE ME WHERE TO
TURN ?
THANKS GUYS !

It's my understanding that once inj pump has been removed engine crankshaft & camshaft should remain "not turned" until inj pump has been reinstalled. I think if crankshaft has been turned with inj pump AWOL then front engine timing gear cover will require removal to TIME timing gears with special timing tool which is a straightedge with a "Y" on one end.

Do you know if the engine has been turned over since the pump was removed?

Which pump?

Is the pump driveshaft still in the gear, or was it removed?

Do you have the service/technical manual for it? If not now would be a great time to invest in one.

Does the engine have a 1-2 hole towards the back of the right side of engine (from front to back ) and then a little prong right below it? The 4 cylinders usually have a spot for a barring tool to roll it over and below it is a spot to put a pin in the flywheel. You can also pull valve cover off to verify compression stroke on number 1 cylinder.
